Dr. Sameer Azhak is a board-certified cardiologist who has cared for patients in northern New Jersey since 2008. He provides comprehensive cardiovascular care for patients with established heart disease as well as those seeking to understand and reduce cardiovascular risk before disease develops. His clinical interests include preventive cardiology, hypertension, complex lipid disorders, metabolic health, ischemic heart disease and coronary artery disease, long-term care after heart attack, valvular heart disease, cardiac amyloidosis, and heart-rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Azhak works with patients to interpret cardiac testing in context, understand their individual risk, and develop realistic, evidence-based plans for treatment, symptom management, and long-term prevention. He cares for patients with coronary artery disease and prior heart attack with particular attention to secondary prevention, appropriate medical therapy, lifestyle measures, and careful risk-factor control. He also evaluates and manages valvular heart disease, cardiac amyloidosis, and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation. When advanced procedural or multidisciplinary care is appropriate, Dr. Azhak coordinates care with electrophysiology, structural-heart, cardiac-surgery, amyloidosis, and other specialty teams.

Dr. Azhak believes excellent heart care should be both rigorous and understandable. He combines evidence-based cardiovascular testing and treatment with practical strategies involving nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and other appropriate approaches to cardiovascular risk reduction. His goal is to help patients understand their condition and participate confidently in decisions about their care.

Dr. Azhak is also a physician-author who writes patient-facing educational articles and books about cardiovascular prevention, blood pressure, cholesterol, nutrition, and long-term heart health. His writing is intended to help readers better understand cardiovascular information and have more informed conversations with their own health-care professionals.

Dr. Azhak is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified in Nuclear Cardiology. He completed his cardiology fellowship through the Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark. In addition to his conventional cardiovascular training, Dr. Azhak completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. This additional training informs his prevention-focused, whole-person approach while maintaining the standards of evidence-based cardiology.

Dr. Azhak earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, magna cum laude, from Rutgers University. He lives in Wayne, New Jersey.
